Stag 2
My second stag was much more of an urban affair. Raj Binji-wo organized the event with his usual precision and thought for details. The night began at a restaurant whose name I cannot remember. It used to be the Urban Well. About 1/2 through the meal Alan remembered that the Urban Well was where I “met” Mercy. “Met” has to be taken fairly liberally here… it was more of “saw.” But that’s another story… The meal was quite good, I had some salmon dish. I’d go back there. If I could remember the name.
Next on the plate was Yuk Yuks. All of the acts were good, with special mention to the MC, who was really funny. The guy was just getting started, and there were a few chuckles in the crowd. You know, people were just settling down into the groove. Except for one guy. Yup, that’s right. Alan couldn’t keep his laughter under 140dB. At first everyone turned around and looked at Al, thinking that he was some asshole that was taking the piss out of the comedian. In fact, Alan was just laughing extremely hard. This got all of his laughing even harder. It was sort of a strange thing really.
The night ended with Raj, Frenchie, Al and myself going to Ginger 51 and seeing/hearing Gene Ferris dj. At first he was playing some thumping jacking house which I don’t really care for. But then he settled down into a good mix with a lot of nice deep house. I didn’t see him spin a record the whole night, it was all cds. The highlight was seeing some older guy dance. He spent most of the night sitting/standing, tapping his toes and stuff. He looked latino: cheasy moustache, white collared shirt, dress pants and shoes. He eventually started dancing with some hot chick. The next thing you know, he’s doing the full splits. He then picks himself upwards by sliding his feet together while shaking/gyrating his shoulders. It like some type of James Brown meets Mr.Salsa. Very cool.
