Tern Purchase
I purchased the Tern 14 on December 21, 2005. Here’s a couple of tips for buying/shipping if you live close to Port Townsend. The cost to ship a boat is the same as the Washington sales tax for the boat. So if you decide to pick the boat up yourself, you’ll pay around $70 in tax. Conversely, if you have the boat shipped you won’t pay the tax but you’ll pay $70 for shipping. Since Pygmy uses UPS for shipping, you can get hit hard for brokerage fees. UPS will charge about $65 for this. An easy way around this is for you to pick up the boat at the Vancouver port (ie Vancouver airport) and clear it through customs yourself.
The boat will be ready for me to clear through customs next Tuesday Jan.3 2006. In advance of this, I’ve almost got the garage ready for the boat. I ended up spending about $140 today on lumber for sawhorses and plywood for the worktable. Ouch.
